Weekend Preview: European Places and Final Day Drama

Weekend Preview: European Places and Final Day Drama

After the Scottish Premiership title was sewn up last weekend, attention turns to the race for European football and crucial final-day showdowns across the SPFL.

🌍 European Race Tightens in the Premiership

A narrow win for Aberdeen over Hibernian last weekend has blown the battle for third wide open, with Aberdeen, Hibs, and Dundee United all fighting for the coveted spot.

Just three points separate Hibs in third and United in fifth. With Hibs hosting United at Easter Road this Saturday, both sides will be desperate for a win.

Aberdeen, meanwhile, travel to St Mirren — on paper, the easiest fixture of the weekend — and still have the Scottish Cup final as a fallback for European qualification.

🏆 Championship Title to Be Decided

It’s all square at the top as Falkirk and Livingston enter the final day level on points.

  • Falkirk hold an eight-goal advantage and host relegated Hamilton Academical.
  • Livingston face a tougher assignment at home against Partick Thistle as they push for an immediate Premiership return.

The Bairns are favourites, but it’s all to play for.

📈 League One: One Play-Off Place Up for Grabs

Most of the questions have already been answered:

  • Arbroath are champions.
  • Dumbarton are relegated.
  • Annan Athletic face the relegation play-off.

That leaves one final promotion play-off place. Alloa Athletic and Stenhousemuir are fighting for fourth.

  • Alloa hold a one-point advantage and travel to Kelty Hearts.
  • Stenny host Dumbarton and will hope to end a torrid run of form to snatch fourth at the last.

⚡ League Two: Survival Battle Reaches Finale

Peterhead’s win over East Fife secured the League Two title last weekend, with Elgin City also confirming their top-four finish.

The final drama lies at the bottom:

  • Forfar Athletic, three points clear and with a superior goal difference, can seal safety against Stirling Albion.
  • Bonnyrigg Rose must win away at Stranraer and hope results elsewhere go their way to avoid the pyramid play-off.
